The new VW ID.4 is an all-electric vehicle containing one motor and a 82-kWh battery that produces a combined 201 horsepower. With the 2021 VW Atlas Cross Sport models, you have two engine choices. There is a standard 2.0-liter turbo-four that outputs 235 horsepower or a 3.6-liter V6 rated at 276 horsepower. However, both of these engines include front- or all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The new ID.4 earned fuel economy numbers of 104/89 MPGe and provides up to 250 miles of driving range on one charge. In comparison, the new Atlas Cross Sport is rated at 20/24 with the base engine and AWD, while the V6 earned 18/23 mpg. ID.4 models can tow up to 2,200 pounds, while the Atlas Cross Sport is rated for 5,000 pounds.
The 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 and Atlas Cross Sport models both hold five people comfortably. Behind the back seats of the ID.4, you gain 30.3 cubic feet of storage space, with a total of 64.2 cubic feet, after folding it down. Both come equipped with many standard features, including Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, dual-zone automatic climate control, plus a Wi-Fi hot spot. However, the ID.4 also includes voice recognition, a digital instrument cluster, a navigation system, four USB ports, a ten-inch touch screen, a seven-speaker sound system, wireless device charging and ten-color ambient lighting, while the Atlas Cross Sport contains a 6.5-inch touch screen.
The 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 exterior dimensions measure 181″ L x 73″ W x 64″ H, while the 2021 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport specs are 196″ L x 78″ W x 68″ H. ID.4 models come with 19- and 20-inch wheels, plus four paint options. You can equip the new VW Atlas Cross Sport with 18-, 20- or 21-inch wheels and nine exterior paint colors.
2021 Volkswagen ID.4 models haven’t been safety rated yet, but the 2021 VW Atlas Cross Sport earned a perfect five-star safety rating from the NHTSA and scored “Good” on every crashworthiness test from the IIHS. With both models, you get standard forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, rear cross traffic alert, pedestrian detection, a rearview camera and blind spot monitoring.
