Safety Features: Driver-Assist Technology

Both cars come with Driver Assistance technology to help make your journeys safer. The 2021 VW Atlas comes with their IQ.DRIVE® technology, which comes with multiple driver assistance features. The IQ.DRIVE® system comes with the following features:

  • Lane Assist: this feature alerts you if you have drifted into another lane without signaling. This is only active when you are driving over 37 MPH.
  • Front Assist: this system can help prevent rear-end collisions with the car in front of you. If the system senses that a collision may occur, the Autonomous Emergency Braking system will either increase the brake pressure or apply the brakes automatically. This feature also includes Pedestrian Monitoring, which can warn drivers if pedestrians are in front of the vehicle.
  • Adaptive Cruise Control: this feature helps keep your car at a chosen speed and distance from the car in front of you. Should the car in front of you change its speed, the sensors will detect this and adjust accordingly.
  • Active Side Assist (Blind Spot Monitor): this feature will alert you if there are other cars in your blind spot as you signal a lane change. It can also counter-steer to help keep you in your lane if you go to change lanes when there is another car in your blind spot.
  • Rear Traffic Alert:this feature utilizes sensors to notify you if there are other cars nearby as you are in reverse. In addition, it can help brake the car if necessary.
  • Emergency Assist: this is an available feature in which the car will be brought to a controlled stop if a driver appears to be non-responsive. It detects this by monitoring steering wheel activity.
  • Travel Assist: this is an available feature that can assist drivers with steering, accelerating, and braking through the use of cameras and sensors. This is a hands-on semi-autonomous driving assistance feature.
